This Friday at GLORY 55 New York Yousri Belgaroui gets a crack at GLORY Middleweight Champion Alex Pereira, in a third fight between the two men. GLORY released a video that takes a look back on the triumphs of Yousri Belgaroui throughout his GLORY career leading up to this big title fight that takes place this Friday, live from New York City’s Hulu Theater at MSG.
Originally slated to take place on Saturday, September 15th, GLORY 58 Chicago has been bumped up to Friday evening, September 14th. The event will take place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and feature Benjamin Adegbuyi vs. Jahfarr Wilnis in the main event. The two met in the finals of a heavyweight contender’s tournament at GLORY 24 in 2015 in a bout that saw Adegbuyi take a razor-thin decision victory over Wilnis before challenging the reigning GLORY heavyweight champion, Rico Verhoeven, for a second time. At GLORY 55 New York Yousri Belgaroui and Alex Pereira will clash for Pereira’s GLORY Middleweight Championship in a rubber match. At GLORY 40 Yousri Belgaroui scored the upset win in the middleweight tournament over Pereira, only for a rematch at GLORY 49 for Pereira’s championship saw the Brazilian retain the championship. At GLORY 55 they’ll clash for a third time, once again for the title, in one of the featured bouts of the evening. One of the more anticipated bouts at GLORY 55 would have to be GLORY Featherweight Champion Robin van Roosmalen squaring off against Petchpanomrung for the title in the main event. Sadly, that fight is no longer on the menu as GLORY announced this afternoon that Robin van Roosmalen has been forced to withdraw thanks to a shoulder injury while training. So once again an interim title will be set and once again Kevin Vannostrand will be involved, this time fighting Petchpanomrung for the Interim Featherweight Championship with the winner fighting van Roosmalen when he’s healthy again. In what was one of the last true holdouts of the old Golden Glory guard left in the GLORY ring, Nieky Holzken has decided to depart the promotion after contract negotiations fell through. Holzken, the former GLORY Welterweight Champion essentially cleaned out the division, running roughshod over it for years, that was until he met Cedric Doumbe. While Holzken is still an immensely talented fighter, a new generation of fighter stood in his way, including Doumbe and Alim Nabiyev, who were able to hand him three losses. GLORY will return to Lyon, France on October 20th, after the Summer of GLORY has come and gone, with GLORY 60. The promotion announced this earlier today, hot on the heels of the announcement of GLORY’s new television deal in the Netherlands. GLORY will now be airing on Veronica starting in July, moving from Ziggo Sport. This will serve as an upgrade for the promotion, moving to a network with wider reach, although it remains to be seen how strong the bond between the network and the promotion are just yet.
