Just who exactly deserves a shot at GLORY Heavyweight Champion Rico Verhoeven? GLORY has had a wealth of challengers emerge since the last time that Verhoeven defended the title at GLORY 33 in September of 2016, but the one that stood out the most to them was Jamal Ben Saddik. Verhoeven, who has a record of 51-10 has lost to very few people in his career, but one of those fighters was Jamal Ben Saddik in 2011 via stoppage.
Since then Verhoeven’s stock has risen beyond measure while Jamal Ben Saddik has had his ups and downs in his career, but is riding a four-win streak. He holds a victory over contender tournament winner Ismael Londt as well as a win over rising star Guto Inocente of late. While not quite a contender tournament victory for Ben Saddik, his history with Verhoeven and their recent, epic stare down was enough to solidify Ben Saddik’s status as a title contender.
The bout is set to take place in December at GLORY’s annual year-end event in the Netherlands. No further details have come out on that show just yet, but rumor has stated that GLORY is looking to run in Amsterdam again come later this year and will be looking to run a bigger building than in their last Amsterdam event.
