On November 2nd GLORY returns to New York city, this time heading to the Hammerstein Ballroom for GLORY 61. GLORY 61 is set to be headlined by two huge world championship fights, both of them being rematches from prior GLORY bouts. Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, fresh off of his defense against Marat Grigorian, will be fighting Josh Jauncey for a second time. Their first meeting happened in Lille, France at GLORY 22 in the finals of a lightweight tournament. Sitthichai was able to defeat Jauncey using his left kicks and since then has gone on a tear, looking virtually unstoppable as lightweight champion. Jauncey, though, was still in the early stages of his career. There have undoubtedly been some growing pains for Jauncey, but he’s also been fighting some of the best fighters in the world, like Sitthichai, Giorgio Petrosyan, Anatoly Moiseev and Christian Baya. Jauncey is currently on a two-win streak after beating Stoyan Koprivienski and defeating Baya in a rematch.
It’ll be interesting to see what a second fight between the two looks like, especially with five rounds for them to play around in.
The other headliner is Jadzy Menezes looking to defend the GLORY Super Bantamweight Championship against former champion Anissa Meksen. Their last battle was mired in a judging controversy, which makes the immediate rematch logical. Many see this as Meksen’s fight to lose, but as we saw last time, stranger things can and have happened in the ring.
There’s also some local flavor on the card as well, because you can’t go to New York without Kevin Vannostrand, one of the most popular fighters that GLORY has in New York, taking on super tough competition in Massaro Glunder.
