Originally slated to take place on Saturday, September 15th, GLORY 58 Chicago has been bumped up to Friday evening, September 14th. The event will take place at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and feature Benjamin Adegbuyi vs. Jahfarr Wilnis in the main event. The two met in the finals of a heavyweight contender’s tournament at GLORY 24 in 2015 in a bout that saw Adegbuyi take a razor-thin decision victory over Wilnis before challenging the reigning GLORY heavyweight champion, Rico Verhoeven, for a second time.
Adegbuyi has remained active and near the top of the division, while Wilnis has had his ups and downs, including the Enfusion Heavyweight Championship before his most recent win over former contender Jamal Ben Saddik earlier this year. Adegbuyi has been keeping active, including a recent boxing match at Dynamite Fighting Show in Romania and will be looking to remain in top form leading into the rematch with Wilnis.
Wilnis is without a doubt a top-level contender and could at any time be slated for a bout with champion Rico Verhoeven without anyone doubting his prowess, which makes Adegbuyi an interesting fight. Adegbuyi has lost to Verhoeven twice now, with a third fight being logical considering how unstoppable he’s been inside of the GLORY ring, but on hold as Benny trains with Dennis Krauweel alongside Verhoeven now, making them training partners after their two battles.
Their last meeting was in Denver, which, of course, is not the greatest venue for heavyweights to duke it out considering the altitude and all, which hopefully Chicago will be a better backdrop for two of the best heavyweights to meet at GLORY 58 Chicago.
