The folks at SuperKombat have been hinting at some big news coming for the past month or so now, and last night it became official: SuperKombat brand ambassador and SK-trained fighter Florian Munteanu has been cast in the upcoming ‘Creed II’ as the son of Ivan Drago. This will be a major role in the film, with them hoping that Munteanu’s imposing presence will help to make him the next breakthrough action star, much like the role of Ivan Drago was a breakthrough role for Dolph Lundgren in the 80’s.
The Creed films follow the son of former Rocky-antagonist-turned-ally Apollo Creed’s son entering the boxing world with Rocky as his trainer and mentor. It’s only logical that they’d follow suit in the follow-up film by bringing back the iconic villain of Ivan Drago, but keep the “father and son” theme alive. There has been speculation over who would land the role and SuperKombat’s Florian made the cut.
Stallone publicly congratulated him yesterday via Instagram, helping to end the speculation, while Eduard Irimia, SuperKombat’s owner and visionary, was in New York with Muneanu for press. Irimia, via SuperKombat Academy and SuperTalent Agency, has overseen the growth of Munteanu into professional kickboxer and now professional actor.
SuperKombat officials have also informed us that they’ll have more news on the upcoming 2018 season in the coming weeks.
