If you follow MMA you know just how difficult it has been to create new stars in the MMA world in the past few years. It looks like someone finally has a new idea and that new idea comes from one of the UFC's co-creators, Campbell McLaren along with reality television show pioneers Bunim/Murray productions for Combate Americas. Combate Americas is a new reality television show to air on mun2 which is aimed at the Hispanic audience. The show will pit eight Hispanic American fighters and various others against each other in a reality show format.
What does this have to do with Kickboxing? Canadian GLORY star Joseph Valtellini will be a guest on the series, along with Royce Gracie and Bellator's Eddie Alvarez, to help guide the fighters along. This is a pretty big deal for Valtellini who is starting to get some name recognition from being a fighter in GLORY, especially after that fight of the year with Nieky Holzken. The show premieres tonight at 10pm Eastern on mun2 and will be broadcast in Spanish with English subtitles.Add a comment
This Sunday, February 23rd, K-1 will host the K-1 World MAX Final Four in Azerbaijan event. This event will feature the Final Four for the 2013 K-1 World MAX tournament, with the winners moving onto the Finals in May. The event will be streamed for free, live on http://www.k-1.tv on Sunday starting at 16:00 GMT time (we'll let you guys do your own time conversion, we usually mess it up). In the top two fights we'll see two-time K-1 World MAX Champion Buakaw Banchamek vie for a spot in the Finals against tough-as-nails Korean Lee Sung-Hyun and two up-and-comers in Enriko Kehl and Shane Campbell battle for the other spot.
On top of that there are a bunch of tremendous bouts between some of the top future stars in the sport.
This weekend Buakaw Banchamek will square off against Korea's Sung-Hyun Lee in the K-1 World MAX Final Four event. This event is scheduled for February 23rd and will air on http://www.k-1.tv via a free stream. No doubt that this is a huge fight for Sung-Hyun Lee, who was competing at 65kg previously before deciding to move up to 70kg in 2013 and enter the K-1 World MAX tournament. Now he has reached the coveted Final Four and will fight the legendary Buakaw Banchamek, but don't color him scared, because he's not. [source]
"In a lot of ways Buakaw is a fighter with basic patterns. He has a lot of power but his combinations are easy to predict. He does not have the technical ability or combination punching of European fighters like Andy Souwer. I feel my style matches up better with Buakaw than those fighters.
I am not that worried about his power. In 2009 I fought a Thai fighter named Ping Poongkwa. I remember his body kicks felt like being hit by a steel pipe. I fought a lot of other Thais but none of them had that kind of serious power. I feel people are just afraid of Buakaw because of his “name”."Add a comment
Yokkao 7 goes down tomorrow, February 19th at the Pattaya Boxing World Stadium featuring a huge main event between Saenchai vs. Victor Ngabe with a possible KO bonus tacked on if one man can finish the other. That means look for fireworks to get that KO bonus, with the same possibility in the co-main event of Suedam vs. Naimjon. We'll have results for you after the event has happened so stay tuned.
Las Vegas is about to have another injection of quality Kickboxing this March as Kickboxing Empire returns to the Kickboxing game promoting a big event on March 8th at the Axis in the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The show will be done in conjunction with the IKA with two vacant IKA titles on the line in bouts between internationally-renowned competitors. The main event features a bout for the IKA Heavyweight Championship between Agron Preteni and Luis Tavares, with the co-main event for the vacant IKA Intercontinental Light Cruiserweight title between Pavel Turuk and Shawn Yarborough.
Former Bellator 115lbs Champion Zoila Frausto will make her Muay Thai debut this weekend on a Dennis Warner WCK Muay Thai event. The event goes down at 7pm on Saturday, February 15th from the Pechanga Resort and Casino. For those that live in the San Diego area or know how to dial in their satellite dish to pick up regional Fox Sports networks the event will air on Fox Sports San Diego live.
Here's hoping to a good showing from Zoila Frausto, who trains out of the CSA Gym in Dublin, California, and hopefully we see yet another star MMA fighter turn to Kickboxing and Muay Thai as a viable path as there are more and more options out there in the wild right now, from Lion Fight to GLORY. If you are in the area or get Fox Sports San Diego the WCK event looks like something definitely worth checking out.

When you think about Muay Thai chances are that Lumpinee Stadium will pop into your head at some point, at least it should. Lumpinee Stadium is perhaps the most famous stadium in all of Muay Thai, as it has housed some of the biggest stars in the sport of Muay Thai and some truly classic fights. Sure, there are other stadiums that have housed some tremendous talent and great fights as well, but Lumpinee's history made it stand out. Lumpinee Stadium opened in 1956 and the old warhorse was showing some serious wear, which led to a new, improved Lumpinee Stadium being built.
On Friday the last event at Lumpinee Stadium was held and the Science of 8 Limbs' Mike LNg spoke with Michael "Chase" Corley, Mark DeLuca, Wayne Gregory and Dave Zuninga about their memories and experiences at Lumpinee Stadium and I highly recommend that you check it out.Add a comment
Over the weekend Ruslan from LEGEND might have let the cat out of the bag about the upcoming LEGEND event in Italy, but the details were still a bit sparse. From the reports that we heard it would involve Carlo Di Blasi's Oktagon as well as some rumors about who might end up on the card. Now last night LEGEND tweeted out an image with two interesting fights on it. As you can see from the image above, the fights so far are Artur Kyshenko vs. Dzabar Askerov and Yuri Bessmetrney vs. Andy Souwer. Those are two big bouts and it looks like it'll be Souwer's first fight of the year post-appendicitis back in December.
Carlo Di Blasi sent out an email this morning confirming the fights. We'll have more as this unfolds.Add a comment
