Look, at this point there isn't a whole lot that can be said about Buakaw. Buakaw is a former K-1 World MAX Champion and probably the most famous thai fighter to fight outside of Thailand. Over the past few years Buakaw has kind of been taking it easy with his fights in the ring while focusing on fights outside of the ring. This stretches from a parting with his former camp, Por. Pramuk, and claiming that their contracts were that of slaves. Then he worked with Yokkao to establish a temporary training camp before he moved on to create his own, independent of anyone else.
His biggest ally during the parting with Por. Pramuk was easily the promotion Thai Fight, who not only fed him a healthy dose of easier fights to build up his name across the world, but helped to assure that the Por. Pramuk breakup would be beneficial for both Thai Fight and Buakaw. Now that relationship has apparently gone sour as well for both parties, as last month Thai Fight launched a lawsuit against Buakaw for about $1.5 million for breach of contract. Now Buakaw Banchamek is launching his own counter-suit for defamation of character.
I will almost always side with fighters when it comes to stuff like this, but many are beginning to wonder why trouble seems to be following Buakaw. Is it just that he's a whistleblower in the world of Thai fighting, or is he breaching the tradition?
If you are unfamiliar with Buakaw's plights, I urge you to read my piece from last year on the whole saga.
