Just one day out from the 2012 Shootboxing Girls S-Cup, it has been announced that MMA fighter Lisa Ellis (formerly Lisa Ward) will be replacing Ukranian Olena Ovchynnikova in the quarterfinals against Seo Hee Ham. An 8 year MMA veteran, Ellis has fought in Japan on numerous occasions in the past under the Smackgirl and DEEP banner, holding wins over Miku Matsumoto and Jessica Aguilar while also facing Megumi Fujii and Jessica Penne, who won a Shootboxing bout against Rena last year. While she has a very tough quarterfinal matchup with Ham and a background primarily in grappling, Ellis is in the same position as Toby Imada in the 2010 S-Cup, a grappler filling in as a late replacement, and Imada went on to knock out Takaaki Umeno and upset 3-time S-Cup champion Andy Souwer. Her key to advancing in the tournament will be her grappling, though Ham has 14 MMA fights and 3 Shootboxing fights under her belt, making this even harder for Ellis.
