Friday Night Fights Tackled Seattle This Weekend

Seattle hosted a night of Muay Thai fights this past Friday night. The top of the card featured a trio of San Jose-based fighters. Two of those fighters were from AKA. Also of note, the card featured a fighter trained by UFC veteran Ivan Salaverry. The rest of the card featured local area fighters as well as a couple from Canada.

In the main event, Chris McMillan of Arashi Do Martial Arts out of Calgary, Canada defeated AKA fighter Aleksander Numoski with a spectacular head kick in the first round. Numoski got up but when the ref asked him to walk toward him, he wobbled toward him. A good stoppage.

It was a mix of tradition and the contemporary as several of the fighters performed ceremonial dances before the fight and thai music played during the fight while hip hop dominated the soundtrack for entrances and in between rounds.

The organization for the fights could have been better as the fights were delayed about a half hour for some unknown reason. Also, media had to wait in the will call line with everyone else before getting in.

Chris Hartman (Element 5 Fitness, Kirkland, WA) def. Sam Schmidt (USMAA, Bellingham, WA) via first round KO.

Emmanual Carter (South Sound MMA, Tacoma, WA) def. Andrew Bunton (Lotus Martial Arts, Spokane, WA) via Unanimous Decision.

Chanan Bunchaidung (Saohin Srisuk Muay Thai, Seattle, WA) def. Kieran Mueller (Canada’s Best, Victoria, British Columbia) via Unanimous Decision.

Erik Luna (AKA, San Jose, CA) def. Deamont Johnson (Saohin Srisuk Muay Thai, Seattle, WA) via first round KO.

Sonny Singh (Rudy Ott, San Jose, CA) def. Taki Uluilakepa (MABJJ, Tacoma, WA) via Unanimous Decision.
