Joe Schilling Talks Return Bout Against Simon Marcus

  • Written by Dave Walsh

There is a lot of talk about K-1 returning to the United States and making a more concerted effort to blow up here, but there is already a decent-sized following for the world of kick fighting here in the United States revolving around the Muay Thai scene. Well, I should say scenes, as there seems to be a bit of an "East Coast vs. West Coast" vibe going on with how regional it can be. Lion Fights in Las Vegas is without a doubt one of the biggest in the West Coast and books some of the biggest fighters available. The biggest, most talked about fight in US Muay Thai would have to be Joe Schilling vs. Simon Marcus, who will square off for a second time on May 12th in Las Vegas. The first bout ended after Marcus hit a sweep that knocked Schilling loopy, who then stumbled up and was knocked down by a punch that ended the fight.

Schilling and his friends and training partners were quick to take to the internet, arguing that it was an illegal sweep, while Marcus and his fans were quick to note that it was a legal move. Message boards were filled with people from both sides arguing back and forth and some muay thai experts claiming it was legal and others saying it was not. The only logical solution was a rematch, and it was quickly granted. Schilling sits down with Jeff Dojillo to discuss the fight as well as the new fight camp of sorts that Schilling, Kevin Ross, Chaz Mulkey, Miriam Nakamoto and others are involved with, "Can't Stop Crazy."
