Earlier today was the SRC marathon year end show, Soul of Fight. In the main event, Hatsu Hioki defeated Marlon Sandro for the SRC Featherweight title in a bout reports are calling a potential fight of the year. Hioki and Sandro battled it out for a full 5 rounds before Hioki took the unanimous decision victory. Sandro came in with incredible momentum riding a string of big KO's, while Hioki had come back strong from a controversial 2009 loss to Michihiro Omigawa. Most pundits predicted Sandro taking this one, but Hioki turned in an amazing, career-defining performance that stopped Sandro dead in his tracks. With that win, Hioki will jump into the top 5 rankings at FW, making him one of Japan's top talents right now.
In the biggest fight of the night for kickboxing fans, Buakaw Por. Pramuk faced K-1 MAX Final 16 fighter Hiroki Nakajima. Buakaw easily controlled his younger opponent, dominating Nakajima en route to a unanimous decision win. Also in stand-up action, Genki Yamamoto fell to Kanongsuk Weerasakreck via unanimous decision under Muay Thai rules in a bout that sounds brutal.
The entire card was epic, with over 20 fights, so there were a lot of highlights. A few notable results to point out:
-Maximo Blanco continued his impressive run through SRC, although he faced stiff competition from Won Sik Park. Blanco took a close decision in a tough fight.
-Yoshihiro Maeda bounced back from a rough year in Dream by defeating former SRC champion Masanori Kanehara by stoppage in the 1st round. Most reports say the stoppage was a bit early in this wild fight.
-Ryo Chonan faced late replacement Taisuke Okuno, and was unfortunately caught early, being KO'd in just 19 seconds to an Okuno punch.
No video available just yet, but MMA Fighting's Daniel Herbertson has a great breakdown of all the action.
