After Petchphanomrung's spectacular knock out over veteran Tong last month he was fast tracked into a shot at Thailand's most dominant fighter, Sam A. Petchphanomrung is only 16 years old and looks set to be one of the satrs of the future but he showed that his time might come sooner or later by putting up an excellent fight against Sam A.
Sam A has looked pretty comfortable ever since the controversial draw with Kongsak and is slowly but steadily running out of credible opponents. He started out as a five to three favourite against Petchphanomrung but the teenager looked very bright in the opening two rounds, catching a couple of Sam A's legendary southpaw left kicks and dumping him on the ground.
Sam A looked a little stronger in round three but while both men sat on their stools the odds dropped to three to two, which reflected Petchphanomrung's suprisingly good showing. The young pretender could have won the fight but made a fatal error in round four when he caught a leg kick and attempted to sweep but lost his balance and slipped to his knees.
It was a turning point in the fight and Sam A never looked back, comsolidating his lead by pressing forward, landing a few body kicks and being more active in the clinch. Petchphanomrung demonstrated with this performance that one day the time will probably come when he overtakes Sam A, but Thailand's number one fighter showed that he isn't prepare to hand over his mantle anytime soon.
Earlier in the night the always aggressive Ponsaneh took on Ting Tong. He started strong, as per normal, but Ting Tong was able to hold his own and utilized his jab to good effect, as well as landing repeated leg kicks to Ponsaneh's lead leg. Ponsaneh was able to get off with a couple of quickfire combinations in the opnening round but Ting Tong had a few moments of his own, landing some sharp punches.
Round two saw much of the same as Ponsaneh backed Ting Tong up but was unable to getr past his opponent's defence as Ting Tong kept a tight guard and countered effectively. In round three Ting Tong started to move ahead, landing some solid kicks to the body and backing Ponsaneh up for the first time in the fight.
Ponsaneh got on the front foot again in round four and it appeared that he might have enough in the tank to finish the fight strong but he faded badly towards the end of the round whereas Ting Tong finished strongly, moving forwards constantly in round five and landing lots of knees in the clinch to take a decision win. Afterwards both men received a trophy for fight of the night although Ting Tong was barely able to get into the ring to receive his award, a legacy of Ponsaneh's brutal leg kicks.
In other results Palangtip scored a vicious round two knock out over Rungpetch, landing a close range elbow followed by a solid straight knee. Dechnaroung showed off some fluid combinations to outpoint Yodthuanthong and Wanchai came up short against Superlek, droppng a decision.
