Conor McGregor will try and become the first UFC fighter to hold two world titles at the same time when he takes on Rafael dos Anjos on March 5th. McGregor became one of MMA’s biggest stars when he snatched Jose Aldo's world featherweight belt from him in December. The Irishman managed to end Aldo’s 10 year reign as UFC World Featherweight Champion within 13 seconds in Las Vegas last December.
Not happy with just being the UFC World Champion in one weight, McGregor is now aiming to become the lightweight champion just three months after winning his first title. Many people thought that he would have to give up his featherweight belt if he wanted to move weights, as is normally the case in the UFC. But UFC President Dana White has made a special exception for the star. During a press conference just days before the big fight was announced, White said: “Normally I would say if you're going to move up in weight, you have to give up the belt. But Conor has done everything he said he would do. He loves to fight. He really likes money, so if anybody could do it, it's probably him."
But despite Dana White’s confidence in McGregor, most bookmakers are currently undecided on who will win the title. Betway currently have both McGregor and Dos Anjos with the same odds at 10/11 to win the belt. The good news is if you’re also as unsure as who will win the fight then you can put money on both sides with an additional free bet from Betway. With the free bet, you can split your chances of winning on each side of the ring or enhance your return if you think you can predict who will win the belt.
The bookmakers have good reason to be cautious and offer the same odds on both McGregor and his competitor, as Dos Anjos will not give up his title easily. Rafael managed to win the lightweight belt last March against Anthony Pettis after a unanimous decision from the judges. Don Anjos looked agile during the whole match despite secretly tearing his MCL only a few weeks before the bout. He then defended his title in December against Donald Cerrone without the judge’s help. Dos Anjos won the fight with a TKO within just 66 seconds of the first round, making it the fastest finish in UFC Lightweight title history.
If you don’t want to have to pick between the two title holders, then you could use the free bet on offer on another big UFC fight scheduled for the same event. Holly Holm will make the first defence of her bantamweight title in what is being billed as the joint main event with the World Lightweight Championship. After shocking the world by knocking out the outright favourite Ronda Rousey in November, her next opponent Miesha Tate shouldn’t be too much trouble for her. Holly Holm is currently 2/7 favourite to win the battle, so a free bet would look more than safe on her.
