VIDEO: Buakaw vs. Yi Long From WLF

  • Published in Video

This weekend WLF ran what they had been billing as the fight of the century. No, not Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather (although they did promote it as on part with that), but instead Buakaw Banchamek vs. Yi Long. It was muay thai legend vs. kung fu legend and of course, only in China. China has seen a steady rise in interest in kickboxing over the past few years, helped in part by Wu Lin Feng, K-1 and Kunlun airing on national television there.

So this fight happened and I dunno, take from it what you will.

Full Card for Jan. 23 Wu Lin Feng Card Featuring Petrosyan and More

  • Published in Kickboxing

China, man, are they starting to get a vice grip on kickboxing or what? Wu Lin Feng's upcoming show on January 23rd is proof enough that they are doing some big things. That 67kg tournament is truly interesting, with names like Andrei Kubelin, Xie Lei, UMA and Nathan Robson. On top of that the legendary Yi Long is competing against Eyedisa Alamdarnezam and Pakorn is fighting Wei Rui.

The man that knocked out Simon Marcus, Fang Bian, is in action as well, taking on France's Cedric Doumbe. The big fight for most of us is Giorgio Petrosyan's first bout of the year against Jiao Fukai in what is looking to be an incredibly busy year for the Doctor early on.

Card is courtesy of our friends at Kiksie.

WATCH: Buakaw Banchamek vs. Yi Long's Second, Controversial Clash in China

  • Published in Kickboxing

The first bout between Buakaw Banchamek and Yi Long in China set records and helped to popularize the sport of kickboxing even further in China. So when WLF scheduled the rematch for this weekend everyone knew it would be a big deal. The fight went down and the ratings were apparently astronomical, with insane viewership.

As for the fight itself? Watch for yourself, but there is absolutely controversy over this one, with Yi Long walking away with the decision in his home country of China where he is a hero.

WLF Results: Giorgio Petrosyan Gets Things Done

  • Published in Asia

Wu Lin Feng returned with a big night of fights, headlined by the Doctor himself, Giorgio Petrosyan, against Jiao Fukai. Petrosyan fought against what seemed like immeasurable odds in China only to knock Jiao Fukai out in the second round. This is a rare knockout from Petrosyan and it's clear that he's still working up to the level that he was before the Ristie knockout. Is Petrosyan's full confidence back now? If so, look out.

There was a big 67kg tournament that took place featuring eight men that saw Andrei Kulebin look great, but only to be bested by china's Qiu Jiangliang. Jiangliang is perhaps one of the best prospects out of China over the past few years, but of course, 67kg isn't exactly a normal weight class that you'll find in most kickboxing promotions at the moment, so he'd either need to move to 65kg or 70kg to fight some of the best in the world in either weight class.

67kg Tournament: Andrei Kulebin (Ext.R - Decision) Jie Feng

67kg Tournament: Qiu Jiangliang (R3 - Decision) Nathan Robson

67kg Tournament: Lu Jianbo (R2 - KO) Melsik Bagdasarayan

Jomthong Chuwattana (R1 - KO) Zeqi Deng

Yang Zhuo (R1 - KO) Craig Dickson

Yi Long (R3 - Decision) Seyedisa Alamdarnezam

Giorgio Petrosyan Scheduled for Fight in China on January 23rd

  • Published in Kickboxing

When it comes to being a top level kickboxer activity is important, especially if you are as good as Giorgio Petrosyan. Giorgio Petrosyan may have just fought Josh Jauncey at GLORY 25, but he's already set to start the new year off right with a fight in China. It's been known for a few weeks now that Petrosyan was scheduled to fight at WLF on January 23rd, but the rumored opponent was the legendary monk, Yi Long.

This week he finally got an opponent in Jiao Fukai. China is yet again bringing the goods when it comes to delivering on big name fighters and starting 2016 off with a bit of a bang. There are other rumors for where else we'll see Petrosyan in the coming months, but that is still in progress.
