Kunlun Fight 38 Results: Buakaw Kills All the Bad Guys and Actual Fights Happened

  • Published in Asia

Kunlun packed up and went on the road for Kunlun Fight 38, hitting up Thailand with a Buakaw Banchamek demonstration as one of the big drawing points for the event. They got their 70kg World Championship Tournament underway with groups A and B, with Dzianis Zuyeu and Khayal Dzhaniev walking away with their respective blocks, moving on to the next round.

The main attraction was a Buakaw Banchamek muay thai demonstration that was very clearly a staged, heavily choreographed affair for the locals. From everything that I've read it was muay boran, which is the older combative form of muay thai which was one display in Tony Jaa films most famously.

Kunlun Fight 43 Results: Kyshenko Bests Groenhart and Sitthichai Wins Big

  • Published in Asia

A part of the allure of China and Kunlun Fight in general is that they put together big fights on a regular basis and that sometimes they fly in the face of convention. Artur Kyshenko vs. Murthel Groenhart is exactly a fight like that. Groenhart is a top contender in GLORY, yet Kyshenko had come and gone through GLORY even though he's clearly one of the best in the world. Kunlun isn't afraid to put top fighters together and that's exactly what they did and Kyshenko and Groenhart went at it, the fight going to an extra round that ultimately saw Kyshenko's hand raised at the end.

There were also two 70kg tournament brackets played out during the tournament, the 9th and 10th groups going at it. Sitthichai found himself victorious yet again, although Mohamed Mezouari did give him some trouble in the final of the tournament. On the other side, Kong Lingfeng made his way through Josh Aragon before steamrolling Kim Minsoo in the finals. Full results via CombatPress.

Kunlun Fight 51 & 52 Fight Card

  • Published in Kickboxing

After a stacked Kunlun Fight 50 on August 20th they will have Kunlun Fight 51 and 52 on Sept 10 and 11 in Fuzhou, China. Now the events aren't as stacked as Kunlun Fight 50 but there are some very interesting match ups including the return of Marc De Bonte to kickboxing, Hicham El Gaoui's Kunlun Debut, Andrei Herasimchuk in a heavyweight tournament and a 65kgs tournament. Adding Marc De Bonte and Hicham El Gaoui to the 80kgs division makes things very interesting.

August 2015 LiverKick Rankings Update

  • Published in Rankings

(C) GLORY Sports International/James Law

It's August heading into September and the time felt right to give the Official LiverKick Rankings an overhaul. There has been movement in quite a few weight classes while some of the others (Light Heavyweight and most of Featherweight) have seen no real movement at all. The first thing to mention is that there was a bit of housecleaning on the rankings, which happens when fighters have been inactive for over 12 months. The two big omissions this round are Daniel Ghita at #3 in Heavyweight and Joseph Valtellini at #2 at Welterweight. Both have been inactive for a year and we were forced to drop them from the rankings.

For them to be re-included in said rankings can be a long road. That means beating someone else on the top ten or winning a tournament featuring top ten fighters to get back near the top.

So let's get down to some of these changes then, shall we? Heavyweight has seen some movement, some of which was the removing of Ghita, the rest of due to stuff happening. Jamal Ben Saddik returned from his suspension with a win earlier this year, but not a top ten win. Beating Braddock Silva, though? That's huge and secures him the #4 spot. Jahfarr Wilnis makes his way to the Heavyweight top ten with his Kunlun tournament victory, the win over Gerges front and center. Gerges beat Gerasmichuk, which bumps those two around. Sergei Kharitonov is no longer with GLORY and seems focused on MMA. It hasn't been a year yet but it seems safe to remove him for now.

No movement at Light Heavyweight for now. Saki was a tough call, but simply leaving GLORY does not disqualify him from the rankings. He had one fight this year which was at Heavyweight, but he's still active. If he plans a full-time move to Heavyweight then he will leave the Light Heavyweight rankings. Middleweight saw very little movement. Sahak Parparyan's poor performance in the A1 World Cup pushed him out in lieu of others and Dmitry Valent makes his debut on the rankings in a tough decision. This is a very tough division to rank and Valent has faced some of the top names in the division and just barely fallen short while picking up wins over everyone else. Bogdan Stoica was considered, but losses to unranked competition sent him to the back of the line.

Welterweight saw a new GLORY Champion crowned in Nieky Holzken, but he was already the top ranked fighter. Hicham El Gaoui returns after a long absence on the LiverKick rankings with a win over Karapetyan and Bai Jinbin from China earned his way into the number eight slot with a crazy win in Kunlun over Stetsurenko. There was some movement at Lightweight, but most of it makes a lot of sense. Sitthichai won the contender tournament, bumping him up further while everyone else dropped down to accommodate that. Petrosyan might still be the most talented, but neither wins over Varol or Kehl were going to push him up any further. Yodsanklai decides to confuse us even further by competing in Kunlun under kickboxing rules, making him a must-rank fighter. Oh yeah, and Dzhabar Askerov is back after a win over Kehl. Big congratulations go to newcomer to the world rankings in Josh Jauncey for his performance in the GLORY contender tournament.

Featherweight only saw movement within the top three thanks to K-1 Japan's awesome shows. Kaew is back to being king again and Soda drops down to a more comfortable 3.

Jahfarr Wilnis and Yodsanklai Win Big at Kunlun

  • Published in Asia

In a Heavyweight tournament that featured the man who beat Rico Verhoeven, Andrei Gerasimchuk and Hesdy Gerges not many were expecting much from Jahfarr Wilnis, but they were all proven wrong today in China. In the first round of the one-night tournament Jahfarr Wilnis defeated China's Asihati and Hesdy Gerges defeated Gerasimchuk to make the finals Wilnis vs. Gerges. The winner emerged as Wilnis, making him the Kunlun Heavyweight Tournament Champion, which was no small feat considering how big of a tournament that it was.

This was a huge step for the Dutch fighter who has been seen in the GLORY ring in the past. With this tournament win Wilnis has propelled himself into the top ten with just one night of work.

Also on the card Yodsanklai Fairtex defeated Dzianis Zuev and Kunlun also made some interesting announcements including signing Buakaw Banchamek and also before the show they announced there would be some sort of Kunlun FC vs. GLORY event, but no real details on that so-to-speak.

UPDATE: We spoke with a few GLORY officials and no, there is no sort of cooperation between Kunlun and GLORY. Expect these events to simply feature fighters who have competed in GLORY.
