Yokkao 5 Event Moved to Nov. 15th in Pattaya

  • Published in Muay Thai

Yokkao

For those that were eagerly awaiting the Yokkao 5 event in Reunion, France it looks like the wait will be just about a week longer and instead of taking place in Reunion it'll be moved to Pattaya, Thailand. The card remains the same, though, even with this kind of late notice, which is good. The Yokkao Team feels that they'll be able to put on a better show without problems in Thailand, which seems to be the best for the fighters right now.

Here is their official statement.

Due to several problems in Reunion Island with Maximin Lafuteur president of Associationne Culturelle Muay Thai, we decided to move #Yokkao5 event in Pattaya (Thailand) on 15th November 2013 (Pattaya World Boxing Stadium). The tickets bought at www.monticket.re will be refunded. Out of respect for fighters and in knowing what it means to train for a fight, all fighters contacted by our promoter Stefania Picelli will be remain on the fight card. Stay tuned for a spectacular event feat. Saenchai, Imwiset Pornnarai, Ekapop Sor Klinmee, Silvia La Notte, Andrea Masini and many others..

Kickboxing Needs to Bring Their Content to the Fans

  • Published in News

Enfusion

Kickboxing is a frustrating sport sometimes. There, I said it.

Kickboxing has been struggling to find its identity over the past few years. That might seem like a bit of an ominous statement, but when you look at how many different organizations we’ve seen in different mediums, how many star Kickboxers we’ve seen retire or rise to prominence, or how many we’ve seen languish in smaller promotions you’ll see what I’m talking about. Right now is an interesting transition period for the sport of Kickboxing and a vital time for the sport where it could either grow to be huge or it could fail and return to obscurity. How that product gets to the fans is probably the most vital part of the sport right now, even more important than the quality of the fights themselves.

The landscape right now is like this; GLORY airs on Spike TV in the United States and then has various, smaller television deals throughout Europe and Asia. K-1 is currently attempting to negotiate television deals while providing free streams via their website. SuperKombat airs on EuroSport and a few smaller networks in different spots in the world. Enfusion is in a similar spot to SuperKombat. Then there are various, regional Kickboxing events that get solid coverage locally but not much anywhere else.

Like I’ve been saying, it’s a very strange and fragmented sport for the time being. There are talks of GLORY considering moving some select, bigger events to PPV here in the United States, starting with GLORY 17. It would probably be in the vein of the UFC model, where the prelims would be on Spike TV and the main card on PPV, which is fine, the only issue is that PPV as a medium is a dying one. The concept of Pay-Per-View in the United States began in the 50’s but came to prominence in the 70’s and 80’s when Boxing took a shine to the concept of selling live broadcasts of big fights through cable systems.

Yokkao Breaks New Ground with 4K Ultra HD Saenchai Promo

  • Published in Muay Thai

You know, I consider myself pretty up on my PC stuff, considering I game on my PC, but even I don't have a monitor and video card to handle 4k Ultra HD video. That isn't stopping Yokkao from investing in 4K cameras to film their videos, though. Yokkao became the first muay thai apparel brand to launch 4K Ultra HD videos on YouTube this week with their new promo for the PK Saenchaimuaythaigym Yokkao Training center promo video.

If you are like me you can still watch the video in normal, boring HD, but I feel that we might be missing out on something. This is just another in a long line of big things from Yokkao, after opening up one of the biggest manufacturing centers to date for muay thai products, rolling out a multilingual website and having many, many international shops around the world where their products are available.

Seeing as though Yokkao 5 has come and gone, there have been questions from fans as to when we can expect to actually see the fights and the answer has come to us directly from the source, with a rather satisfying answer at that. According to Yokkao there will soon be a bunch of post-fight interviews up on YouTube as well as some highlights, but the best is yet to come as by the end of December all of the fights will be up on their YouTube channel for free.

Yes, that means that you'll be able to catch up on the latest from Yokkao for free. In the meantime, watch this video documenting the leadup into the event.

Yokkao 12 & 13 Results

  • Published in Europe

Yokkao 12 & 13 had great match ups this weekend and from the sounds of it everyone that was at the event thoroughly enjoyed it. It's just too bad we had no way to watch it on TV or online, we will just have to patiently wait until they are uploaded to Youtube. The most surprising result for me is Sanny Dahlbeck's TKO win over Jordan Watson. I wasn't sure who was going to win that fight but I figured it would go the distance at least.
