LiverKick.com and Phuket Top Team Announce The Challenger Muay Thai Contest @phukettopteam

  • Published in Kickboxing

PTTAs we mentioned in an earlier post, we've partnered up with Phuket's hottest gym to bring you, the LiverKick.com readers news, information and of course, free stuff! Phuket Top Team is a gym and of course a fight team based out of Phuket, Thailand. Phuket is an absolutely beautiful island paradise that happens to house a huge, state-of-the-art gym that is frequented by some of the biggest names in the MMA, Muay Thai and Kickboxing world. If you don't believe me, here is a photo of Roger Huerta and BJJ legend Professor Braga prepping to teach some classes at PTT.

Much-hyped Muay Thai fighter Cyrus Washington has made Phuket Top Team his home, which should tell you something, and has been representing PTT on The Challenger Muay Thai, which airs weekly and picks up where The Contender Muay Thai left off. Think of it as a reality show featuring the best up-and-comers in the Muay Thai world competing against each other weekly to crown a champion and you can start to imagine just how big of a deal this show is. You can find more information at their website.

Since Cyrus is a big part of the show, he has a ton of The Challenger Muay Thai gear, too much to hold onto and that means that it was passed over to the trainers at Phuket Top Team. Well, those guys love LiverKick.com and our readers so much that we've decided to give away a whole slew of Challenger Muay Thai gear.

If you remember back to our It's Showtime giveaway, we don't skimp when we give away stuff, when we say we are giving away some gear we are giving away a lot of top notch gear. This prize package includes t-shirts, tank tops, fight shorts, polos and hats. It is a haul.

This could be yours! Prizes

I guess you are wondering how you can win this haul? It is very simple, actually. We want you to show that you are a fan of Phuket Top Team and show them some love. LiverKick and Phuket Top Team Present - 8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay Pt 1

  • Published in Muay Thai

I'm very pleased to present this first installment of a series called "8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay" which is a production done in conjunction with Phuket Top Team. This series is meant to show what a nak muay (fighter) goes through on a daily basis to pursue their passion for fighting and just how grueling and unforgiving it can be. Look for some of the subtle nuances in this first part of the series, such as the contrasts between the serenity of training in beautiful Phuket, Thailand right by the ocean to the grueling training and how the surrounding areas are not as wealthy as a lot of the first world is.

It is quite simply a different world with a different values system. This time around we are following 13 year old Yoduman who is just beginning his journey as well as Kru Lucky, who has a wealth of experience, but is still putting in insane amounts of work. Of course, you can also see the fantastic facilities offered by Phuket Top Team, as well as their great crew. It is crazy to think that I remember talking to Boyd when this was just a "what if" and then when the gym was in its infancy.

PTT & Liverkick present "8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay" Episode 2!

  • Published in Muay Thai

From Phuket Top Team, presented by Liverkick.com!

Boyd from PTT is nothing if not enterprising. Muay Thai documentaries are always anticipated and appreciated; remember the mild furore when the Lumpinee one was announced and its trailers released? A fantastic way of promoting oneself whilst managing to entertain a legion of Muay Thai doco hungry fight fans.

This documentary is somewhat different from the norm, being released in multiple parts. It will follow several fighters, namely "Lucky", a former Rajadamnern and Lumpinee stadium fighter who suffered a nasty arm break one year ago and suffered a subsequent forced exile from the ring; Yoduman, a young boy of 13, with less than three months Muay Thai training but who has already fought three times - twice in Bangla Stadium - and has looked like a composed veteran in the process; Malik, a cocky 19yr old American Nak Muay with a Bangla Stadium title to his name, among other featured stars of the show.

Within the first year of existence, PTT has built up a large online presence through twitter and youtube videos, and has attracted top notch fighters to train there such as Roger Huerta, Mike Swick, Jorge Masvidal, Andrew Leone, and a handful of notable Muay Thai fighters and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts. Now, the latest video trend is not an instructional, a seminar or even one of the boy's fights from Bangla Stadium... it is a documentary about Muay Thai from the perspective of several fighters from the camp, entitled "8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay".

Here is episode 2:

Stay tuned to liverkick for the next episode of this ongoing documentary series, and follow @PhuketTopTeam on twitter.

"8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay" documentary, episode 4!!!

  • Published in Muay Thai

Episode IV of the well received Muay Thai documentary series, 8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay!

Presented by liverkick.com, Life of a Nak Muay has followed former national stadiums fighter Lucky, and 13yr old penniless Thai kid Yoduman who chose the sport over schooling. Then, a look at the culture behind watching live Muay Thai in the boxing stadiums, from the sights, the sounds, the gambling, the preparation, the mongkol...

Here is episode IV, focusing on foreigners or "farang" fighters - 9yr old Jon Vetle who came from Norway (where combat sports are banned) for his first Muay Thai fight (full pro-rules) and a cocky 19yr old American kid who came to live as a professional fighter in Thailand, with a degree of talent and ego in equal measure.

Enjoy!

Trivia; the guy in red shorts with lacklustr... ahem, awesome padwork is me. Mum, I'm famous!

Episode five will focus on the fighters featured here, as they are both in fight preparations, much like Lucky and Yoduman in the first two episodes. Stay tuned!

Follow @PhuketTopTeam and @DanielFletcher_ on twitter or you're a terrible person and undeserving of internet access.

Stay tuned to Liverkick.com for episode five!
