Tyrone Spong Flattens Nathan Corbett in Technical Fight

  • Published in Glory

My god. This has been an amazing night of fights so far, with lots of exciting bouts, big knockouts and some really solid action. The feature fight of the evening, Tyrone Spong vs. Nathan Corbett was set for just before the Heavyweight tournament finals and my god did it deliver. Both guys are extremely skilled and pack a lot of power. The first round saw a lot of crazy action, with Spong landing the better body shots.

Round two is where things changed a lot, as Spong landed a left hook that just flattened Corbett, only for Corbett to be able to respond to the count and get back up. As they were continuing to battle it was clear that Corbett wasn't completely recovered and another big shot put him down, with him unable to respond to the ref's count and the fight being stopped.

Nathan "Carnage" Corbett Signs With GLORY

  • Published in Glory

Nathan "Carnage" Corbett has been one of the most sought after fighters by fans to make the jump over to kickboxing and fight big names, and it looks like it's finally going to happen. Today it was announced by Mark "The Hammer" Castagnini on the Hammer Time Fight Show that Corbett had signed a two fight deal with GLORY.

Demand for Corbett in GLORY had been high prior to the signing, with rumors going back of the promotion pursuing the Australian fighter for quite some time now. Corbett is of course the best heavier weight Muay Thai fighter in the world, and one of the main reasons why he's held in such high regard is his fight with Tyrone Spong in 2009, where Corbett knocked Spong out but ended up with a no contest to show for it. He's mainly stuck to fighting in Muay Thai with a kickboxing bout here and there.

Corbett fights at 95kg, the weight where Tyrone Spong just won the eight man light heavyweight tournament. It seems like they're destined to fight again, now that they're in the same promotion. According to Castagnini, Corbett will debut with GLORY in October in Chicago.

Corbett's last fight came in April, where he knocked out Kamil Sokolowski in the first round. In 2012, he defeated fellow GLORY fighters Steve McKinnon (for the second time) and Stephane Susperregui.

Nathan Corbett Talks First Fight With Spong and Looks Ahead to Glory 11

Glory

When it comes to fights that fans are dying to see, GLORY seems dead set on making those big fights happen to not only keep old fans happy, but to show newer fans just how exciting GLORY Kickboxing can be. That is definitely the case when it comes to GLORY 11's big showdown between Tyrone Spong and Nathan Corbett. The two first met in 2009 in Jamaica in a fight that resulted in a No Contest due to some late shots that Corbett fired off after it looked like Spong was done for. In Corbett's mind this is still a KO win for him, but for Spong, there is revenge on his mind.

Corbett very rarely goes outside of Muay Thai rules, as his elbows are two of his best tools in the ring and over the past few years he hasn't ventured very far from the Gold Coast of Australia, but that is all about to change. Corbett will enter the ring at GLORY 11 in Chicago against Tyrone Spong and he sure as hell seems ready to me, what do you think? Check out this interview from GLORY with Corbett.

LiverKick.com Talks GLORY 11 with Tyrone Spong

GLORY

Tyrone Spong is a name that has jumped up in value over the past few years after cutting his teeth on the international muay thai and kickboxing circuit in a dizzying amount of weight classes. Spong has fought not only some of the best in the world in one or two weight classes, but in just about every weight class between 70kg and Super Heavyweight in the span of his career, with one fight against Nathan “Carnage” Corbett standing out as the one that fans wanted to see happen again. GLORY is making precisely this happen at GLORY 11 Chicago this weekend, live on Spike TV.

LiverKick.com caught up with Tyrone Spong earlier this week to discuss the fight with Carnage and he has a very mature way of viewing the first bout with Carnage, when asked if he considers it a draw or a loss; “Oh no, no man, for me personally it’s a loss. You know, according to the rules and the commission they call it a no contest. That’s not on me, you know, I don’t make the rules, I just fight according to them. To me personally though, I consider that a loss and now I have the chance to avenge that loss, so we’ll see.”

Nathan Corbett Back in the Win Column This Weekend

  • Published in Australia

Nathan Corbett

When Nathan "Carnage" Corbett made his GLORY debut at GLORY 11 Chicago against Tyrone Spong there were high hopes among seasoned Kickboxing and Muay Thai fans as Nathan Corbett has been tearing up opponents at Light Heavyweight for years now, but mostly in Australia. He's been the guy that everyone has wanted to switch over to Kickboxing for years, but honestly, his few stints into Heavyweight Kickboxing didn't bear fruit. With GLORY promoting more weight classes it seemed like a perfect fit, the only problem was he ran into Tyrone Spong in the prime of his fighting career and things didn't work out for him.

Carnage came back with a vengeance this weekend at Total Carnage IV from Gold Coast where he met Henriques Zowa from the Netherlands. How did it go? Well, it's Carnage and he's allowed to throw elbows. Carnage scored a stoppage via an elbow strike in the second round.
