It's Showtime Announces New May Show

  • Published in Kickboxing

It's ShowtimeMore news from the ever-busy It's Showtime - this time it's a new show added to their 2011 schedule.  On May 21, the company returns to The Sand in Amsterdam for It's Showtime 48, and there is already a solid partial line-up announced.

In a Heavyweight fight, It's Showtime HW champion and top 10 ranked Hesdy Gerges will face Chris Knowles.  Knowles is a well regarded English Muay Thai stylist.  He was originally set to face Rico Verhoeven for IS late last year, but was forced off the card due to travel difficulties.  He's a good pick up for It's Showtime, and will make a strong addition to their Heavyweight ranks, although he definitely has a tough task ahead of him here.  Gerges will be coming in off his career high win over Daniel Ghita, and will look to continue his rise through the ranks.

The fight that most has my attention is a 70kg bout between Mohamed Khamal and Robin van Roosmalen.  Khamal made the jump up to 70kg last year, and promptly made an impact, winning the K-1 West Europe GP, knocking Artur Kyshenko out of the MAX GP, and putting on one of the best fights of 2010 in his defeat of Mosab Amrani.  He has quickly established himself as both a dynamic fighter, and a real force in the Middleweight division.  van Roosmalen is in almost the exact same position as Khamal was not long ago.  The young fighter is currently on a five fight win streak, including defeats of William Diender and an impressive win over Chahid Oulad el Hadj.  Like Khamal, he is a rising fighter, and is poised to be one of the break out fighters of 2011.  This will be a rematch, as the two men met in the semi-finals of last year's 2010 K-1 MAX West Europe GP - Khamal took that fight via 2nd round KO en route to claiming the tournament crown.  With two exciting, young, hungry fighters, this has all the ingredients to not only steal the show, but be a highlight fight of 2011.

One other fight to note is Anderson "Braddock" Silva vs. Jamal Ben Saddik.  Saddik is the fighter who scored a surprise KO win over Rico Verhoeven at It's Showtime 46 last month.  If he can score back to back win over Verhoeven and Silva, he will have immediately established himself as a serious challenger, and a name to watch.  Silva is a tough challenge though, as he holds some big wins over the likes of Hesdy Gerges and Freddy Kemayo, who he KO'd with a spectacular head kick to close out 2010.

The full line-up announced so far:

HESDY GERGES vs. CHRIS KNOWLES

ROBIN VAN ROOSMALEN vs. MOHAMED KHAMAL

ANDERSON SILVA vs. JAMAL BEN SADDIK

MOHAMED MEDHAR vs. HAFID EL BOUSTATI

AMIR ZEYADA vs. SAHAK PARPARYAN

JASON WILNIS vs. LAURENT ATRIFFI

If you for some reason missed It's Showtime 45, you missed out on Mosab Amrani vs. Mohamed Khamal, an absolute, all-out war that not only went three rounds, but into an extension round before Khamal was able to pull himself together enough to pull off the big upset decision win.

World Fighting League Promo Video

  • Published in Video

World Fighting League, promoted by Melvin Manhoef has a massive card coming up on April 3rd in Almere, Netherlands. It will include 3 tournaments and 7 super fights.

The Main event of the card will feature 2x K-1 Max Champion Andy Souwer against the very technical and dangerous Mohamed Khamal. The other fights have not been announced yet but names like Murthel Groenhart, Zakaria Zouggary, Chahid Oulad el Hadj, Ibrahim el Bouni, Fred Sikking, Luis Tavares, Redouan Cairo, Marco Pique and Ilona Wijmans will be included.

They recently released an amazing promo video for the event featuring many of the cards fighters plus a hooded Joop Ubeda wielding a flaming glove, if that isn't epic then I don't know what is. These type of videos really make me wish all promotions would put this kind of effort into their videos, Well done WFL.

2010 Fight of the Year: Part 9

  • Published in Video

Fight #9 is a late entry, but a strong contender...

Mosab Amrani v. Mohamed Khamal (It's Showtime at the Sand, December 18)

It's Showtime had an excellent year in 2010, but it wasn't until the final fight on the final show that they put on a true fight for the ages.  Mosab Amrani v. Mohamed Khamal is a testament to the power of quality matchmaking.  These are two young fighters, both eager to move up the ranks, and both coming in determined to win.  They're also extremely evenly matched, which results in a tremendous back and forth bout.  This one reminds me of Chahid v. Zambidis in a lot of ways, as both men throw at a very fast pace, but also use considerably more skill and technique then you see in many of these all action fights.  Khamal is in blue, Amrani in red.

If you ask me, Khamal should have picked up the decision win after regulation, but I have no complaints the way things went down.  Fun, fun fight here, and it's not terrible hyperbole when the announced says it may be the best fight It's Showtime has ever produced.  Great way for the company to close out the year and springboard into what could be a blockbuster 2011.

Mohamed Khamal Makes His Enfusion Live Debut in March

  • Published in Kickboxing

Enfusion Live have promised a bigger and better 2017 and have already announced a slew of signings from Thailand, now their latest acquisition is a Dutch legend at 70kg in Mohamed "Mootje" Khamal. Khamal, who made his name on the Dutch circuit with solid wins over top names like Robin van Roosmalen, Harut Grigorian and Artur Kyshenko. Khamal became an international name with his blistering fights in It's Showtime with Mosab Amrani and van Roosmalen in 2011 before retiring in 2012.

That retirement didn't last long, as most retirements for fighters that young tend to be, with him returning in 2014 and remaining active ever since. His last fight was a loss to legend Andy Souwer in the Netherlands.

Enfusion Live #47 Results & Highlight Video

  • Published in Europe

Enfusion Live #47 took place this weekend in Nijmegen, Nederlands with overall some pretty good fights. Keng Superpro Samui lost his belt by controversial decision to Soufiane Kaddouri. Ismael Lazaar got the win this time but again looked very tired and no where near the killer he was last year. In the main event Mohamad Khamal won a decision over Jomthong Chuwattana just by being more busy with his hands, even though Chuwattana landed quite a few kicks on the arms, this is kickboxing rules after all.
