It's Showtime today announced that Chahid Oulad el Hadj and Danyo Ilunga have both been forced to withdraw from their respective fights on January 28 due to injury. Ilunga was set to face Mourad Bouzidi in a -95kg fight and Chahid was set to face Harut Grigorian in a 70kg fight. Chahid has a dislocated shoulder and Ilunga has an elbow injury.
The It's Showtime 70kg World Champion, Chris Ngimbi will be stepping in for Chahid against Grigorian, making the fight a rematch of their fight from October of 2009 where Grigorian won a decision in an extra round. Ngimbi said a while back that he was planning to fight in January, so this match-up works out perfectly.
It's not really surprising that Danyo Ilunga is out of the event. He's currently in Congo, his home country so it figures that something was up with him. Read the full news release from It's Showtime below, or go to their website and read it here.
January 12, 2012 -
Unfortunately two fighters were forced to withdraw themselves due to injuries from the IT’S SHOWTIME event in Leeuwarden on January 28.
Chahid Oulad el Hadj suffers from a dislocated shoulder, while Danyo Ilunga has a severe elbow injury.
IT’S SHOWTIME 70kg max world champion Chris Ngimbi will replace Chahid Oulad el Hadj. Ngimbi will face Harut Grigorian, who is responsible for a bad spot on Ngimbi’s record. Young prospect Grigorian, who left a longlasting impression against Andy Souwer in the IT’S SHOWTIME ‘Fast & Furious 70 max’ 8 man tournament of last September, defeated ‘The African Warrior’ by decision on September 24, 2009, in Lommel, Belgium. So for Ngimbi, this is his chance for revenge.
We are currently still in negotiation with several fighters to determine who will take the spot of Danyo Ilunga in the fight against Mourad Bouzidi.
We hope to have informed everyone in time. At this moment there are no other injuries or changes on the fight card. For the entire fight card, click here.
