It's Showtime is holding their 53rd event tomorrow in Tenerife, Spain and the fight card is set with some intriguing match-ups. A few match-ups have had fighters shuffled in an out, but the card is still pretty solid.
In the main event, It's Showtime 95MAX World Champion Danyo Ilunga defends his title against hometown fighter Loren Javier Jorge. Ilunga has defended his title once this year, stopping Nenad Pagonis in a very sloppy fight. In September, he beat Mohamed Boubkari to stay active. Loren lost a lopsided decision to Tyrone Spong at It's Showtime's Madrid event in June and last month beat Rodney Glunder at home in Tenerife. Loren can present some problems for Ilunga with his crisp combos but I don't think he's quite sharp enough to dethrone him. Ilunga's relentless pressure in my opinion will be too much for Loren and I could see a late stoppage or wide decision for Ilunga. Who knows, maybe Ilunga will fight very technical like he did against Wendell Roche.
Giorgio Petrosyan makes his return after yet another hand injury and takes on another hometown fighter in Zeben Diaz. Diaz impressed against Yavuz Kayabasi at It's Showtime's Madrid event but lost to Warren Stevelmans the next month. He has very good hands and throws crisp combinations but he's fighting Giorgio Petrosyan. Giorgio will likely put on another clinic.
Sergio Wielzen takes on Javier Hernandez's replacement, Tenerife fighter Carlos "Chiquitin" Reyes at 61kg. Reyes has a win over Hernandez and this should be another great match-up. Wielzen is an outstanding kicker and kicks should be flying for the whole fight. Amir Zeyada fights another Tenerife fighter in Moises Ruibal. This is another good match-up, and the short Ruibal will come forward with punch combinations while Zeyada uses more of a full arsenal of strikes. Zeyada has transformed himself into a huge 85kg fighter that is competitive with higher level fighters. Ruibal's style is made for excitement so expect fireworks.
Murthel Groenhart has been very active for It's Showtime this year and now he fights fellow Dutch fighter Darryl Sichtmann. Sichtmann is a pretty good fighter stepping up from the Dutch scene, and fighting Murthel at 77kg is a measuring stick for a fighter's success. Both fighters are very dynamic and Murthel's style is great to watch. Sichtmann tends to let his opponents impose their game on him and that's why I favor Murthel here. Last but not least, Andy Ristie takes on Jonay Risco. Ristie is slowly rising up and Risco will serve as another stepping stone to the big stage for him.
You can catch the fight tomorrow at 4PM EST on www.showtimefights.com or in Canada on The Fight Network.
